This week we learned about the writing process. We watched a powerpoint presentation, took notes, and discussed each of the steps. To start the lesson, we collaborated in groups and discussed an everyday process. Then we wrote down the steps of a process that we all agreed upon and acted the process out in a skit. After our skits, we discussed the importance of following processes step by step. Obviously, you can't just take out peanut butter and start spreading it; you need the bread first. Writing is also a process and you can't publish before you revise. Otherwise, your writing may be unclear, and when writing is unclear, readers walk away.
The four steps of the writing process are:
Writing Prompts
1. Human beings have five senses to make sense of the world. Select a sense and write about an event from the perspective of that sense.
2. Describe one of the following processes
4. Tell four short stories (four unrelated paragraphs) about your past. The challenge is to start each paragraph with…I wasn't.
I enjoyed watching the different skits and seeing you guys laugh and learn at the same time. Keep up the good work and get ready to show your writing skills on your first essay assignment this week.

The four steps of the writing process are:
- Pre-writing- in the pre-writing step, the writer gets ready to write. It is important to read the writing prompt thoroughly and to brainstorm ideas.
- Writing- this is where writers do what they do. Tell your story, talk to you reader, entertain them, inform them, and write to your audience.
- Revising- go back and reread your writing. Make sure you start every sentence with a capital and end with the correct punctuation. Did you leave words out or repeat words? Revision means to look at your writing again before it is published and make it the best it can be.
- Publishing- this is the step where you release your experiences and ideas to the world. It's like opening the door to your mind and allowing readers to see how you think and ultimately to learn from that thinking. The only way we learn is when we share our thinking with each other.
